The Jewish Archives of Mosul in the 19th century

Overview

The collection of documents from the Alliance Israélite Universelle and the French Consulate in Mosul, dating from 1880 to 1913, provides a detailed and invaluable account of the socio-economic conditions, intercommunal dynamics, and humanitarian interventions concerning the Jewish community of Mosul and its surrounding areas. Comprising official correspondence, financial statements, and consular reports—primarily addressed to the Central Committee of the AIU in Paris—these archives document sustained efforts to deliver aid, confront educational and economic challenges, and ensure transparency in charitable work.

All documents in this collection have been translated from French into English by Omar Mohammed. An inventory of the translated materials will be made publicly available soon for those wishing to request access to specific documents. Below is an overview of the documents.
